The Kristo Buase Monastery

(Christ in the Rocks),

SUNYANI, in GHANA

The cloister garden

After Farnborough and Pluscarden the latest project is a foundation in Africa. In 1987, the Bishop of Sunyani, in Ghana, was asking for English monks to found a monastery in his diocese. As none of our Abbeys could help him individually, it was decided to make it the work of the whole Province of the Subiacu Congregation in Great Britain. The foundation was made jointly by Prinknash Abbey, Pluscarden Abbey, and St. Augustine's Abbey in 1989.

Already a beautiful site has been developed, designed by a famous architect, with three springs of water and spacious lands for building and planting. The Kristo Buase Monastery (Christ in the Rocks) already has members of the Ramsgate and Prinknash communities in residence although, canonically, the monastery is dependent on Prinknash Abbey. In time it is hoped that it will become a totally Ghanaian community. We ask your prayers and support in this new venture.
